Alabama Division of Risk Management Introduces Educators Liability Coverage

MONTGOMERY -  Education employees of Alabama's K-12 public schools now have liability protection provided by the Educators Liability Trust Fund.  This program provides basic liability coverage for school board employees if a claim is made or a suit is filed against them in the performance of their job duties.  Coverage began on July 1, 2013 and it applies to occurrences that happen on or after that date.  Covered employees were automatically enrolled on this date.

The benefits of the ELTF Program are similar to that of the General Liability Trust Fund providing coverage for employees of the State of Alabama.  The limit of liability is $1,000,000 per occurrence which includes costs of defense.

Covered employees are encouraged to report claims (or possible claims) to DORM immediately by either filling out a form online or by calling our office at (334) 223-6120.  Further details and information are available on the DORM website at www.riskmgt.alabama.gov.
